Merry Christmas from Blog Tahoe

Blog Tahoe Merry Christmas Happy Holidays

By: Aaron Robbins

I can still remember my first Lake Tahoe Christmas. I was quietly seated aboard an Amtrak passenger car gazing out the window at all the wonderful snow. Even though I’d been to Tahoe many times before, I can remember looking out at a village not knowing where we were. It was a good feeling. I imagined the train had stopped at some magical town only accessible by the rails we’d come in on. Everything seemed perfect. There was fresh snow covering first floor windows, icicles reflecting the twinkle of holiday lights and smoke from chimneys warming the cold mountain air. Unfortunately, the station in question was not our final destination. After a few of the train’s passengers unloaded we slowly pulled away. I looked back sadly as the station and town faded into the night. I can remember thinking I would probably never return. Years later, after sharing this story with family and friends, I determined conclusively the town in question was Truckee California. Truckee has grown some over the last 20 years and things probably look a little different today than they did that night. The trains still roll through town though and I have to imagine there is a kid on the train tonight who is looking out the window and seeing my magical village for the very first time. Merry Christmas little kid.
