Up on the rooftop.
The historic Thunderbird Lodge located in Tahoe’s Incline Village needs $50,000 by the end of the year in order to replace the lodge’s roof. The lodge is still sporting its original 1930’s cedar shake roof which has taken severe damage over the last couple of winters. The fire department is asking the preservation society to bring the lodge’s roof up to a Class A standard. Not am easy or cheap task.

The Griswald Family Christmas Tree.
The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is reporting all 3000 Holiday Tree Permits have been sold. The permits allow some lucky people to select and cut down their very own Christmas Tree from the Tahoe National Forest. This may sound alarming at first but this holiday tradition actually increases the health of the forests by reducing dense groves of small diameter trees. If you didn’t get one of the special trees this year don’t even think of digging one up Clark Griswald style. You’ll have to wait till next year to get your hands on a permit.

Rare owl spotted in South Lake Tahoe.
Jim, a local birdwatcher, recently captured images of an eastern owl called a Barred-Owl right in his own backyard. He was able to photograph the owl from his deck in South Lake Tahoe and by doing so made the first documented sighting of a Barred-Owl in the Tahoe area. Congratulations to Jim on the find.
