Truckee gets an 80-ton locomotive for Christmas.

The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento recently gifted an 80 ton 1953 diesel locomotive to Truckee in support of the proposed Truckee Railroad Museum. The classic locomotive was brought up Interstate 80 on a flat bed truck and required a little help getting

over the west side of the Donner Summit. The train, which arrived last Wednesday, is just one of three being donated to Truckee for the museum slated to be opening sometime next summer. “Think of the economic impact to our town by bringing in visitors,” Misty Young of the Truckee Donner Railroad Society said. “It will encourage people to stop in our town and get to know it.” The town of Truckee has several other projects already underway in an effort to raise awareness of the historic town.
